Is the bus stop obvious and safe?

Can it support heavy rain?

Is it hanging?

Why bus stops are important?

A bus stop is a designated place where a public transport bus stops for the purpose of allowing passengers to board or leave a bus. It is a point of transition where an enquiry starts to become a journey.

A simple and common bus stop.

Bus stop - has 3 main kinds of stops:

  • Scheduled stop: The bus uses the stop irrespective of demand. This can be done to simply avoid confusion, or to ensure correct running to the timetable.
  • Request or flag stop: The bus will only stop to allow boarding or alighting if requested.
  • Hail and Ride stop: Stops may only be called at to set down a passenger at their request.
All the information at the bus stop needs to give confidence, through being well presented and up to date. It is important that the location and name of the stop has been accurately provided to traveline. This brings to the importance of a bus stop sign.

Compare the following bus stop signs.

What do you think about the above bus stop sign? Is that having sufficient information for passengers?

Or this one is better?

The bus stop sign will sometimes contain the route numbers of all the buses calling at the stop, optionally indicating frequent, infrequent, 24 hour and night services.
